Wuhan Sports University””s origins can be traced back to Zhongnan Institute of Physical Education, in Nanchang City, Jiang Xi Province. The Zhongnan Institute was formed in 1953. Shortly after, in 1955, the institute moved to its present site in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and changed its name to Wuhan Institute of Physical Education in February of 1956. WSU is under the aegis of both the National General Administration of Sports and the Hubei Provincial Government. WSU is organized into thirteen schools. Included are the academic schools: School of Physical Education, School of Sports Training, School of Chinese Martial Arts, School of Sports Art, School of Sports Economics & Management, School of Health Science , School of Journalism and Communication, School of Sports Engineering & Information Technology, School of International Education, Graduate School, School of Competitive Sports, and School of Continuing Education and Preparatory School. WSU has twentyfour undergraduate programs and twelve graduate programs in physical education and related fields. Currently,WSU recruits international students. In January of 2006, with the approval of Degree Committee of the State Council, our university became the Conferring Unit of Doctor””s Degree which formally gave the qualification of recruiting doctor graduate student. At present, WSU has about 12,000 full-time students, including 1,300 postgraduates. There are an additional 3,500 adults enrolled in WSU””s continuing education programs.
