Southern Medical University, located in Guangzhou, formerly the First Military Medical University, was founded in 1951. It renamed Southern Medical University in 2004. The University began to enroll Chinese Government Scholarship students and international undergraduate students for English-taught clinical medicine programs in 2006. It was designated as a national key university. The University has 17 schools, 6 affiliated hospitals and 45 non-directly affiliated hospitals. It has 7 post-doctoral research stations. If offers 75 doctoral programs, 98 postgraduate programs and 49 undergraduate programs. The number of the University faculty is more than 6000. Among over 19,500 students enrolled, more than 900 are international students. The University enjoys extensive international exchanges.
