The China Academy of Art is a premiere fine arts institute of higher learning. In 1928, the predecessor of the present China Academy of Art, the National Academy of Art, was founded as the first comprehensive art academy in China by Mr. Cai Yuanpei, a renowned Chinese educator. The Academy is located in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province in the vicinity of Shanghai. Zhejiang Province is one of the most developed and wealthy provinces in China. The city of Hangzhou is known as “a paradise on earth” for its scenic beauty and tranquil environment. The Academy is situated on the banks of the famous West Lake and is a perfect location for artistic learning and enrichment. Since its founding, the name and location of the Academy have been changed several times. A large number of talented artists celebrated both at home and abroad have worked or studied at the Academy, among whom were Zhao Wuji, Wu Guanzhong, Li Keran and Zhu Dequn.
