The Mid-Autumn Festival, the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese calendar. On this day, other than eating mooncakes and enjoying the full moon with your family, travelling to a new destination is also an option. We recommend eight places which might suit your discerning taste.

Tourists are taking photos in the sunflower field along the Yellow River in Sanmenxia, Henan province.The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called Harvest Day because fruits and vegetables are ripe during this time of year, and food is abundant. In Chinese culture, the color that represents the harvest is gold, hence the sunflower field is an excellent autumn destination.

Erhai Lake in Dali, Yunnan province. Erhai Lake is situated 1,972 meters above sea level and covers an area of 250 square kilometers. It is the second largest highland lake in China, after Dianchi Lake. Its average depth measures 11 meters. The best way to tour the lake is to ride horses, bikes or camp around it.

West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Covering an area of 5.6 square kilometers, West Lake seems just like a beautiful mirror, with its gentle, shimmering ripples on the beautiful and fertile shores of the East China Sea near the mouth of Hangzhou Bay.The enchanting sight of West Lake is so famous that it attracts a large number of domestic and foreign visitors year round.

Huangshan Mountain, Anhui province. Huangshan Mountain covers an area of about 1,200 square km, the highlights of which occupy 154 square km. It is a land form typical of Mesozoic granite. Its highest peak, the Lotus Peak, rises 1,864 km above sea level.Officially designated as one of China’s top 10 scenic spots, it has charmed countless number of tourists from home and abroad.

Sunset of Dongting Lake, Hunan province. Dongting Lake, China’s second-largest freshwater lake, is located in Northeastern Hunan province. It is a large, shallow body of water surrounded by mountain chains. Depending on the season, concentric ridges of land appear in the lake in many areas. This is because the lake acts as a flood basin for the Yangtze River. The appearance of Dongting Lake changes throughout different seasons, sometimes even during the same day.

ShiLaoRen beach in Qingdao, Shandongprovince. ShiLaoRen is perhaps Qingdao’s most impressive tourist beach. It was named after shape of the prominent rock outcropping located just off ShiLaoRen Peninsula. It is said to resemble an old fisherman waiting for his daughter to return from beneath the waves. With tables, chairs, tents, ATVs, speed boats, jet skis, showers, and a beautiful new boardwalk as well as continuing re-development of the site of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta, this is an ideal place to spend an afternoon or warm summer evening.

As a unique mountain, Mount Lushan can be best described with the poem:“The true face of Lushan is lost to my sight, for it is right in this mountain that I reside.” However, a closer look at its history shows the extraordinary relationship it has had with the progress of Chinese civilization. It is safe to say that Lushan is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization.
