Founded in 1954, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NUCM) is one of the oldest institutions in China. It is highly regarded as the birthplace of TCM higher education. The university is one of the WHO Collaborative Centers on Traditional Medicine, the International Acupuncture Training Center specified by the Ministry of Health of China, and one of the first few of TCM universities approved by the Ministry of Education of China to train international students. The university currently offers students three types of degrees: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees. At present, the University is running 25 bachelor’s programs, 44 master’s programs, 25 doctoral programs and 3 postdoctoral stations. Affiliated with the University, are 22 clinical hospitals, 5 hospitals of Integrated TCM and Western Medicine and hundreds of teaching clinics. The university takes an active part in international cooperation and academic exchange. Early in the year of 1993, it initiated a joint Bachelor program with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology of Australia. This making the university, the first university of TCM in China to begin international collaboration with a foreign nationally accredited university in the field of TCM higher education. At present, there are about 18,000 students studying on campus, including over 2000 students who are studying Master’s and Doctoral degrees, along with over 1000 overseas students.
